A capacitor is an electric component that temporarily stores an electrical charge. A “run capacitor” supports electric motors, such as in air conditioner or heat pump units, a fan motor and a compressor motor. The capacitor has two terminals. Capacitors come in a variety of sizes, depending on the capacitance (µF or MFD), such as 40 plus 5 µF, and also the voltage. A 440 volt capacitor can be used in place of a 370 volt, as it is build better, but the 370 can’t be used in place of a 440 volt. It will work for a while and will fail prematurely, as exceeding the capacitor’s rated voltage will cause the dielectric to break down and the capacitor to short out. Same as an electric wire- 600V rated wire is better than 300V one .The capacitance(µF or MFD) must be the same or stay within 10%+ or 5%- of its original value . Example: 50 µF cap can be substituted by 47.5 to 55 µF with the same or better voltage ratings capacitor . Round oval-shaped run capacitors are commonly used for air conditioning, to help in the starting of the compressor and the condenser fan motor.

    I bought this one and another larger capacitor for both my AC units. The one that wouldn’t blow cool air caused me to check both units and both capacitors were fully rusted. Once I replaced them it’s like I have 2 new AC units. It cools the house with massive ceilings so quick. And so cold even at 70-75 degrees, it have the house freezing! Saved more energy immediately on my next electric build. I’m thinking about buying 2 more just to keep on hand.

    replaced AC condenser fan and capacitor when the motor burned out. Found a good deal on this part compared to OEM replacement else where. This was the last part I needed to get the unit up and going, but items arrived late 4 days later than anticipated by Amazon tracking. I left town for 2 weeks before I could work on the until again. Works great, make sure to read the circuit diagram to hook at the wires up correctly. AC is back in business in the MS heat.

I tested it with a voltage meter it was good so I have part to change out when needed, go on utube see how to test the one that went out and test new to make sure its good. This will save you big money, DIY for sure
